Finally some pictures!

The two year old discovered oatmeal the other day. Wish I could get him to eat it instead of play with it.

This is our zoo. Carmel is the dog. Socks is the big black cat and Rascal is the small orange playful thing.

This is the usual picture of Ally. She is wonderful and always talking to her friends. Maybe I should try calling her myself.

Cameron and Sarah are good buddies. Cameron is very strong and Sarah loves to be carried.

In September we added Rylee to our family. This is a pic of some of our family with Rylee and his dad. Chad, Rylee's dad, drives this truck for his job. We love having Rylee at our house!

Steroids, Hospitals, and Snow

Our foster boy and I just spent the last three days at Emmanuel Children's Hospital. He has RSV and compounded with his asthma it created a bad situation. The good news is that if we had to be at a hospital, that one is amazing. They have toys, games, a great lady that comes around to sooth the children by singing and playing her guitar and harp, Santa with presents, etc. Make a Wish foundation came the day we were discharged to help Nate pick out presents for everyone living at his house with him. It was incredible.

The bad news is that he is on his asthma meds every four hours for a week or two. And he is on prednisone, a steroid, until March. The energizer bunny now lives at our house. Like a two year old needs any help in the energy departmen! That being said, we are so glad to be back home. I gained a great appreciation for people who have to spend weeks or months in the hospital. I will be much more compassionate in the future.

The other children were happy to have Dad in charge at home. They had sleepovers, pizza, and other things because he is a cool dad. I was just glad to have something to clean. I actually asked the nurse at the hospital if I could empty garbages or something. It was boring to just sit in the hospital room.

Hope you are all getting ready for a great CHristmas. We here in Portland have a TON of snow. They cancelled school almost all this last week and they may even cancel church tomorrow. Our city just doesn't know what to do with so much white wet stuff. Sarah is thrilled and can't wait for our family to go build a snowman. (Ever tried to motivate teenagers to go out in snow on purpose?)

Well, prednisone boy is on the run so I will go chase him and write another post later.

Blogspot, here I come!

So thanks to my sisters Elicia and Heather, and my cousin Alison, I am trying to blog. I don't really get it but with six kids and no time, maybe this is the best way to keep a journal and family and friends updated.
We have a lot going on at the Emery house but we seem to be able to roll with the punches so far. The end of 2008 has been a growing year for our family. We have four children, Taylor, 17, Allison, 14, Cameron, 12, and Sarah, 6. In September we added a three year old boy to our mix. He is a great kid and seems to fit in so well. Then, in November, we had the chance to take a foster boy to live with us. He turned two last week and we had fun throwing a birthday party for him. My niece, Katie, made the cake all by herself. She is nine and has more creativity than I will ever have. She made the cake a "Cars" theme. She decorated with hershey bars for the road, tootsie rolls and smarties for the cars, oreos for the stack of tires, and a small flashlight suspended in midair as the street lamp. It was amazing and he loved it.
Right now, our family is looking forward to an after Christmas trip to Seattle. The kids are excited to see the space needle and the aquarium. I am excited to be all together as a family with no distractions. I think Scott just hopes he survives this trip. Six kids in a hotel room. Aaaagggg!
